Social Distancing

Level Design Competition

Chris Young's Social Distancing is a topical puzzle game where you must manoeuvre your character and the bystanders around whilst keeping them all two metres apart. It's a surprisingly good game for this competition, but unfortunately it was only distributed with two levels.

I think that ought to be fixed, so until the end of the CSSCGC (24th of December 2020 at 23:59:48 GMT), you can send in your own levels. At the end of the year, a new version with all of the submitted levels will be released - sure, the joke will be hackneyed by the end of the year, but that will only add to the crapness!

How to make a level

Download the game from here and then load it on any Spectrum. When the first level begins, move your cursor and then press E to enter the editor (if you don't move the cursor first, the game will crash with a subscript error). You will know that the edit mode has been selected by the cursor changing to a cyan colour.

The following number keys place an object at the current cursor position:

Do bear in mind that the editing cursor has a habit of getting stuck, so you may need to occasionally exit from editing mode to regain control.

Once you have finished designing your level, either take a screenshot of it, or press S and type in a level number to save it to tape. Please do make sure that you can actually complete the level before sending it in!

Once you're happy with your level, simply send it to csscgc@connosoft.com. There is no limitation on how many levels you can send.
